Your smile is your calling card. When you first meet someone, it is your smile that has the potential to ingrain itself in his or her mind, where it can embody your warmth, your kindness, your confidence and grace. Cosmetic dentistry should not be about producing a smile that conforms to some Hollywood ideal of perfection. When Dr. Carpenter and Dr. Kim perform cosmetic dentistry at Poway Center for Advanced Dentistry, it is their goal to create a smile that is special and unique, a smile that expresses the one-of-a-kind personality of the patient to whom it belongs. In other words, they will work with you to produce a smile that is wholly and utterly yours, and yours alone.
Whether you require a slight refinement of a tooth or two or a comprehensive smile makeover, you can rest assured that you will emerge from your cosmetic dentistry treatment with a smile that was customized for you. Dr. Carpenter and Dr. Kim will work with you to formulate a treatment plan that is tailored to your individual needs and aesthetic goals. They will listen closely and attentively to you from the start to help ensure that you are fully satisfied with your results.
If you would like to make your dream smile a beautiful reality, then we would welcome the opportunity to work with you toward fulfilling that vision through high-quality cosmetic dentistry. The most fundamental element of a healthy smile is vibrantly white teeth. The ZOOM! ® professional teeth whitening system is capable of whitening teeth by up to ten shades in approximately an hour. It is particularly effective in removing stains caused by tea, coffee, dark-colored sodas, tobacco, red wine, and certain other staining foods and beverages. The procedure is proven safe, and results can last for five years or longer with proper oral hygiene and routine dental visits.
The key to the effectiveness of ZOOM! ® teeth whitening is the proprietary ZOOM! ® bleaching gel. With hydrogen peroxide as its active ingredient, the gel is applied to the teeth and then activated upon exposure to the special ZOOM! ® lamp. It then breaks down to penetrate the natural enamel of the teeth so that it can reach even the deepest stains and destroy their bonds. Most stains will become significantly lighter after treatment, and those that are yellowish in hue are most likely to disappear altogether.
There is debatably no treatment in cosmetic dentistry with the ability to transform a smile as powerfully as porcelain veneers. Veneers are thin layers of the highest-grade porcelain that are customized to be placed on the front surfaces of cosmetically flawed teeth. Once bonded to these teeth, porcelain veneers conceal such imperfections as cracks in enamel, chips, discoloration, and gaps between teeth. They can also be used as a sort of “instant orthodontics” to improve how the upper and lower teeth come together when the mouth is shut.
Dr. Carpenter and Dr. Kim provide patients with veneers that are specially crafted to complement their surrounding non-treated teeth. They pay meticulous attention to the finest details, including texture, to ensure the most natural-looking results possible. And because porcelain shares light-reflecting properties with tooth enamel – they both allow some light to pass through rather than simply reflecting all light off their surfaces – the results can be very natural looking, indeed.
Dental implants represent the absolute best available method of replacing missing teeth, bar none. No other method is as strong, durable, or natural in its look, feel, or function.
The implants themselves are tiny titanium posts that are surgically embedded in the jaw, where they fuse together with the jawbone through a process called osseointegration. Because they are accepted by the body just as a natural tooth root would be, they provide unparalleled support for tooth restorations, including dental crowns, dental bridges, and dentures. Patients who were once missing teeth come out of treatment with smiles that are once again whole, their oral health intact. They are able to eat, speak, and smile with the same ease and confidence that they would have with a mouth full of healthy natural teeth.
Composite bonding involves the application of a composite resin material onto the front surfaces of cosmetically flawed teeth in order to restore their aesthetic appeal. While porcelain veneers are slightly more natural looking due to the translucent nature of porcelain, they also require some alteration of the tooth – namely, the removal of a small amount of enamel – before placement. This is not true of composite bonding, which is one benefit of the procedure. It is also somewhat less expensive while still producing excellent results.
During your initial consultation with Dr. Kim, you will have the opportunity to discuss all of the cosmetic dentistry options that can help you to fulfill your aesthetic goals, whatever they may be. If porcelain veneers and composite bonding are both viable treatments, your dentist will explain the advantages and disadvantages of each honestly and openly. Together, you can decide which treatment option is best suited to your unique needs.
